A post about this lovely woman is long overdue.. Not only is Regina an amazing visual artist, she is one of the sweetest, most endearing individuals you will ever meet. You may remember Regina from the Black Artist as Activist Exhibition that we produced a couple of years ago at the Corridor Gallery in Brooklyn, NY (circa 2010) and her work has only flourished since then.  I am very proud to have Regina as a member of the Theatre for the Free People family of artists : activists and look forward to continuing to share her work and her light with the world.

“Flora of Cleveland, TX” | graphite and ink on paper | 2011

“I start with memories, whether autobiographical or acquired through the series of stories and experiences of others. My own memories are recorded in journals, photographs, notes and other random souvenirs collected through a childhood of international travel and shifting identities.”

“Broken” | ink and graphite on paper | 2009

“My pieces are meant to open a dialogue about how we view our own expressions of beauty, what shapes those expressions, and how we reconcile those against labels such as foreign, exotic, or unknown/other. There is much need for positive change and transformation in these areas, especially when we are raising young women in the media-driven, packaged and often unforgiving ideals that flood our daily lives.”

“Tropic Sage” | Ink and Collage on Paper | 2011

“My most recent work consists of graphite drawings with collage, and has originated from women’s narratives, in particular those relating to beauty and self-definition as women in the African Diaspora.  I seek to explore the labels that we place on ourselves (or those we struggle against).  The collage materials that I use are intentionally place-specific and culture-specific, while the works address our common need for self-definition of beauty and creativity”

“Doctors No. 1″ | graphite and ink on paper | 2011
