Heesterveld

Heesterveld (H-SPOT) is the new cultural hotspot in Amsterdam Zuidoost (Southeast) where artists and creative entrepreneurs live and work.  In partnership with Artchitect the Future, Heesterveld and the H23426 initiative, Theatre for the Free People offers an affordable two week residency for international artists : activists in one of the most exciting and unique cities of the world.

Program Objectives:

  • To serve as a platform for emerging artists/activists to share, develop and exhibit artistic work.
  • To produce quality artistic work, events and productions which address relevant social justice issues and the practice of international exchange.
  • To establish a creative hub where artists/activists all across the globe can come, be inspired and develop artistic projects in a supportive and collaborative environment.

Package Includes:

  • Housing for two weeks in the Heesterveld (HARTT) Apartment for international artists.
  • Complimentary meals at Heesterveld Homecoming Restaurant.
  • Bike rental.
  • Hidden Treasures of Southeast Tourist Package (including travel guide, map, catalogues, magazines, event postcards, memorabilia etc.)
  • Online access to Theatre for the Free People’s “Artist as Activist” lifestyle magazine featuring events, artists, organizations etc. Amsterdam x New York
  • Complimentary studio/workshop/event/rehearsal space.
  • Personalized consultation with Theatre for the Free People based on individual artist/organizational needs goal, interests etc.
  • Theatre for the Free People membership including featured artist : activist profile on website, complimentary admission to events and services.
Total Cost: 500.00 Euro / $650.00
Transportation not included.
Admission requirements:
  • Completed online application. (e-mail theatreforthefreepeople@gmail.com to request an application)
  • Interview. (via Skype if outside of the greater New York City/Amsterdam area)
  • Video Application. (strongly encouraged) upload a video explaining why you feel you (or your organization) would be the perfect candidate for this residency to vimeo and mail link the theatreforthefreepeople@gmail.com
  • A non-refundable deposit of 50.00 euros / $65.00  is required within two weeks of acceptance.
Residency requirements:
  • Successful completion of personalized project goals.
  • Minimum of one blog post per week (published on Theatre for the Free People, Architect the Future, and H23426 websites)
  • At least one collaboration with Heesterveld resident artist or event in partnership with Architect the Future or the H23426 project. (i.e. Open House in HARTT apartment, guest cook in Homecoming restaurant, or collaboration w/artist on piece of music, poetry or art.
  • Photographs, video interviews, and social media promotional assistance.
